HANDYWORKER PROGRAM
The City of Los Angeles Housing Department (LAHD) Handyworker Program provides
free minor repairs up to $5,000 for low-income, home-owning seniors and/or persons with disabilities
to address basic health, safety, security and accessibility needs.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Property must be located in the City of Los Angeles
Homeowner 62 years and older, or
Homeowner living with a permanent disability, or
Homeowner living with family members with a permanent disability (limited repairs)
All applicants must be low income
REQUIRED DOCUMENT COPIES

If not a senior, an SSI Award Letter
SSA Letter, Pay Stub, Pension Statement, Retirement (Proof of Income)
Property Tax Bill (Ownership)
Utility Bill (Residency)

Owner occupied single-family homes in the City of L.A.
Owner occupied stationary mobile units (i.e., Manufactured homes)
Multi-family property NOT eligible.
SERVICES AVAILABLE*
Repair & replace: doors, windows, quick release for bedroom window security bars
Exterior repairs: fences, gates, porches, steps, walkways
Interior repairs: flooring, minor wall/ceiling repairs
Safety: smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, grab bars
Minor electrical repairs: light fixtures, outlets, switches
Minor plumbing repairs & replacement: leaks in faucets, toilets, and repair/replace water heater
Accessibility improvements: ramps, hand rails
Earthquake Safety: Brace water heater, Seismic gas shutoff valve
Exterior Building repairs: Gutters, vents, siding, trim, fascia, stucco patch
Painting: interior & exterior
Installation of safety & security devices for renters: hand held showers, bath/shower seats, grab bars, toilet seat riser
*Priority is given to health and safety issues first before other issues are addressed.
